10a. Special Events
The Valley Twirlers have participated or put on several different activities over the years. Some of the Special events we put on or participated in are listed below.
Anniversary Dance
The big event of the year is our annual Anniversary dance - Polynesian Promenade! Our luau spread is the talk of the town!
Sheriff's Picnic
The Sheriff's Picnic is held at various locations, Main dish and cold drinks are furnished by
Sheriff's fund, and members/guest bring a salad, side dish or a dessert. Families and friends are invited to
participate.
Pancake Breakfast
We have put on several pancake breakfasts, the profits were used for good will projects at Christmas.
Club Campout
We have had club campouts. At these we invited family and friends and had different activities including a potluck dinner and a square dance.
Mother Goose Parade
We have entered a float in the El Cajon Mother Goose Parade three times, The first time (November 1998) we
won the Mayor's Trophy with our float entitled "Old Mc Donald had a Farm". The Second time
(November 2000) we won the Sweepstakes Trophy with our float entitled "The Cat and the Fiddle". The thirds time (2016) our club joined with the Back Country Square Dance Association on a flatbed trailer float featuring two squares of dancers who danced during the entire length of the parade!

2000 " The Cat and the Fiddle" won the Sweepstakes Trophy
